INTERVIEW WITH JIM KAYE 'BIG TUNA' Empty P.C MUSIC

Post by Guylaine Mon 27 Apr - 6:33

Good Morning Guylaine,

This morning I turned on the computer, and listened to your interview with Jim Kaye while I was eating breakfast.... and before I knew it, an hour+ had gone by very quickly. That was a wonderful interview.

Of course, Jim is a great person to interview because he can really keep the conversation going very smoothly with all of his various stories, and informative facts about the music he plays.

I knew that you had been preparing hard for the interview, and were nervous about doing that for the first time in English...so I felt a little nervous for you when at about 14 or 15 minutes into it, he jumped ahead from the "radio sta. in the backyard shed" story to "when I started working at the all-girl college station". I said to myself, I hope he didn't answer a half a dozen of Guylaine's questions all in a sentence or two. But I'm sure that wasn't a problem because the interview went on for so much longer after that, there were still plenty of things to speak about. If I had only heard of Jim for the first time in your interview, I would have been very tempted to find his "show" to hear what it sounded like, because you interviewed him so well.

Oh, by the way......don't be so critical of yourself regarding your "English". I can't even imagine being able to hold a 3 minute conversation with anyone in another language other than English. I'm sure my "New Yawk" accent would come through even if I knew enough of a different language to have a conversation at all.

Sure, there are a couple of your phrases once in a while that might not come up to your "perfectionist" standard, and yes you sound like a native French-speaking person speaking English but gee....I'm sure any native English speaking person would love to hear your "English" just the way it is. Your "radio" voice sound is very nice and smooth too. I occasionally listen to cable stations from various European countries that have English speaking versions of their newscasts, and you sound similar to the way they do! Fine!!

(I hope those last two paragraphs made any sense)

Only one "addition" for your future interviews. Even though I am not a sports "nut", I often listen to a sports station in NYC late at night, WFAN (the Fan) (www.wfan.com), because its the only "live-local" thing on the air (other than all-news). They often do many live interviews with various sports stars, managers, newpaper reporters, etc. The interviews are usually bet. 15-20 min. long because that fits into their "20-20" sports score updates. At least twice during the interviews, they say something to the effect of "We're here on "the Fan" talking with "John Jones of the New York Yankees"...... So for a long interview like yours, you could probably "plug" your name and website, and the interviewee's name or website in a sentence like that, at least 3 or 4 times for sure. (so that people tuning in later into it would know who they are listening to- of course that probably applies more to live radio, than on internet )

(Making something up here, like):
"Were here on guylaine.com speaking with Jim Kaye from Smashfm.biz"" or
"This is Guylaine on montrealradiofan.com and my guest is Jim Kay from HitOldies5150"

Thanks so much for sending me the interview. I truly enjoyed hearing about Jim and his history, and especially hearing you in your first "English" interview.

Bye for now, have a nice Sunday...already 84 degrees at noon!!

Lou (not a professional radio person or interview critic!!!)

Guylaine,

I finally cleared some time on my calendar today to listen to your interview. It was absolutely wonderful! I knew a lot about Jim, but the interview really opened my eyes to some aspects of his life I never had heard before. By the way, your English is wonderful. Yes you have the accent, but I never had any trouble understanding what you were saying! Thank you, thank you, thank you, for sharing this wonderful piece of work with me. I think it makes me love Jimmy even more!

See you in the chatroom!
